Launched in 1965, the Toyota Sports 800 was a compact sports car that utilized the mechanicals of the popular Publica. Despite its underpowered, air-cooled twin-cylinder engine, it was particularly effective in endurance racing thanks to its incredibly low weight of just 580 kg. Its aerodynamic design was also well-received, earning it the affectionate nicknames Toyohachi and later Yotahachi.
