The Cat M318 is a medium-sized wheeled excavator with an operating weight of approximately 18 to 20 tons, depending on the specific configuration. It is powered by a Cat C4.4 diesel engine with an output of approximately 129 kW (175 hp), which meets current EU Stage V emissions standards and is also suitable for operation with biodiesel up to B20. The machine features a boom with a length of approximately 5.2 meters and optionally available sticks of various lengths, enabling a maximum digging depth of approximately 6 meters and a reach of up to 9.2 meters.

The hydraulic system delivers a maximum flow rate of approximately 296 liters per minute at an operating pressure of up to 35,000 kPa. The M318 reaches a travel speed of up to 35 km/h and features two steering axles for high maneuverability in urban applications. The slewing speed is around 10 revolutions per minute, and the maximum slewing torque is approximately 50 kNm.

The operator's cab is equipped with an adjustable air suspension seat, a large touchscreen monitor, individually programmable joysticks, and automatic air conditioning. Assistance systems such as 2D E-Fence, swing and lift limiters, load weighing, and camera support ensure safety and precision during operation.
